The Point

New York Green Roofs designed and installed a 7,350-square-foot green roof atop the main facility of The Point Community Development Corporation, a non-profit organization that promotes the cultural and economic revitalization of the Hunts Point section of the South Bronx. The Point is a non-profit 501(c) (3) dedicated to youth development and since its founding in 1994, has worked with local residents to strengthen the neighborhood and celebrate the life and art of the community. The green roof symbolizes a commitment to sustainability and a dedication to improving the environment of the community. With the area’s average annual rainfall of about 45-50 inches per year, The Point’s green roof will reduce storm water runoff by more than 150,000 gallons annually, helping alleviate flooding in The Point’s courtyard and improving water quality in the nearby Bronx River.
