The Statue of Liberty Museum opened in 2019 to offer visitors education on the historical statue and her message of freedom and opportunity. Artifacts and an immersive theatre are housed beneath an 35,000SF intensive green roof meadow that rises up from the ground plane, seamlessly merging with the building while inviting all to engage in the full experience both inside and out. New York Green Roofs consulted with the Landscape Architect, Quennell Rothschild & Partners, on the sloping roof’s plant palette, which offers museum goers a vista of native grasses and flowering perennials to ground them while extending sweeping views of the iconic Statue of Liberty, New York Harbor and the NYC skyline, much like immigrants would have experienced when they first arrived to the United States.
