The Empire State Building’s eco-friendly green roofs span four different terraced set-backs and total 9,100sf, the highest of which is on the 30th floor. The green roofs are part of ESB’s new investments in energy-efficiency upgrades that include retrofitting, improving public areas and infrastructure upgrades. New York Green Roofs provided sun/shade analysis for the feasibility study as well as ongoing maintenance for the four extensive green roof systems by Xero Flor America. Adding green roofs to this New York icon shows by example the potential all city buildings have to transform roofs into sustainable garden oases in the sky.
