Spence School

This rooftop garden is an integral part of an urban school’s K-12 science curriculum, providing students with an ecology lab and teaching kitchen to help them navigate their role and passion for the environment. Designed by Nelson Byrd Woltz and managed by Zubatkin Owner Representation, New York Green Roofs was chosen as the artisan team to craft the fully custom garden. Using all native plantings, a blank rooftop was successfully converted into a dynamic living laboratory, ripe for educational experimentation, investigation, and observation.
